Kiddush Cup
Germany, Nuremberg
1773
Silver, Forged, embossed, engraved
On the sabbath, a cup of wine is drunk especially to remember that the day is holy, and thereby fulfil the commandment to remember the Sabbath day. A special cup, usually of silver, is used for this purpose. This silver cup has a classical shape: a figured stand on a round stepped base in the shape of a turned-over blossom. The cup is decorated with a column-like pattern and above a floral ornament is engraved. The master also engraved the Jewish letters and the tiny Tablets with ten God's commandments.
